How should I store my Pivot Point mannequin?

Make sure the hair, head form and all components are completely dry before storing. This helps prevent unpleasant odours caused by mould or mildew.

Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures. Do not leave mannequins or components in vehicles, cabinet dryers or other areas where extreme temperatures may occur.

How should I wash and condition mannequin hair?

Gently comb and detangle the hair before shampooing.

Use a non-alkaline shampoo with lukewarm water. Work your fingers through the hair from the scalp toward the ends to minimize tangling, and avoid excessive scrubbing or agitation.

Rinse thoroughly and apply a leave-in conditioner or finishing rinse. Tightly curled hair may benefit from a moisturizing conditioner.

When detangling, use a wide-tooth comb and work carefully from the ends toward the scalp.

What temperature can I use on my mannequin?

Hot tools should not exceed 177°C (350°F) on human-hair and natural-hair mannequins.

If using a cabinet dryer, monitor the mannequin carefully. Extended exposure to high temperatures can deform or damage the head form. Never leave a mannequin in a cabinet dryer overnight.

For tightly curled hair, use low heat and airflow when diffusing. When blow-drying, section the hair and work with medium-sized partings for a smooth finish.

Stove pressing is not recommended. 

Can I colour my Pivot Point mannequin?

Yes, depending on the mannequin and hair type. Always perform a strand test before any chemical service.

When colouring, protect the synthetic face around the hairline with protective cream and plastic wrap to help prevent staining.

Avoid allowing oxidative colour or lightener to contact the synthetic scalp, as chemicals may penetrate beneath the surface and damage the hair implantation.

Do not lighten mannequin hair by more than four levels. Pivot Point recommends 10- or 20-volume developer rather than high-volume developers. 

Can mannequin hair be relaxed?

Mild sodium hydroxide or thio relaxers may be used to reduce curl patterns.

Do not relax the hair completely. Pivot Point recommends approximately an 80% reduction in curl.

Do not relax hair that has previously been processed with lightener.

Can I perm my Pivot Point mannequin?

Yes. Alkaline or acid perms may be used on dark, non-lightened hair.

For lighter hair colours, choose a milder perm formulated for colour-treated hair.

Perming extra-long mannequin hair is not recommended. 

Is there anything I should avoid when styling?

Avoid excessive backcombing of yak or goat hair, as it can cause breakage.

Always consider the specific hair type of your mannequin when selecting styling techniques, products and temperatures. 

How should I care for Bio-Hair?

For shampooing, combing and thermal styling, Pivot Point recommends temperatures between approximately 130°C and 170°C (266°F–338°F).

Bio-Hair can be coloured from light to dark; colour will coat or stain the fibre rather than lighten it. Bio-Hair can also be permed.
